Description

Woodburytype mounted on paper and bound as frontispiece of Mrs M. M. Gordon, 'The Home Life of Sir David Brewster' (published 1869). Portrait of Sir David Brewster, seated half length, turned slightly to left but looking front. Oval. The photographer's name is given on page xii.

This is an early example of the use to which woodburytypes were most familiarly put, as book frontispieces. The process was patented in 1864 by Walter B. Woodbury.
