Description
Woodburytype mounted directly on to the printed page of the periodical, on the front of the issue for November 15, 1878 (vol.6 no.139), page 449. Portrait of D. E. Hughes, seated half length, turned slightly to left and looking more to left. The photograph was specially taken by Mayall to accompany a biographical article about Hughes (pages 449-51), who had come to prominence that very year as a result of his invention of the microphone.
