Description

Small portfolio bound in brown cloth, with a linen band. George Higgs, Photographic Atlas of the Normal Solar Spectrum. Contains a series of spectrum photographs, mounted on thin card, together with three printed pamphlets by George Higgs: 'The Photographic Normal Solar Spectrum ... Consecutive Wave-Length Edition', dated Liverpool, December 1896; 'A Photographic Atlas of the Normal Solar Spectrum ... Descriptive Supplement'; and "On the Geometrical Construction of the Oxygen Absorption Lines ...", offprint from Proceedings of the Royal Society, 1893. There are also many papers bearing manuscript notes and calculations, presumably added at the University Observatory, Oxford, to which this copy belonged. Another copy, with only one pamphlet and without manuscript additions, formerly belonging to R. B. Clifton but also acquired from the Department of Astrophysics, is 12949.
