Description

In MS Gunther 80, scrapbook of T. H. T. Hopkins relating to mechanics and turning. Eight photographs, either woodburytypes or purple-brown toned albumen prints, mounted on the album pages. They show: a floating crane or dredger; a crane or hoisting engine; various types of buckets and mechanical gathering or excavating attachments for such hoisting engines (4 photographs); and steam cranes or hoisting engines on rails actually in use (2). One of the latter machines bears a maker's name: 'Pr... Brothers | Engineers'. No accompanying description. This group of photographs has the appearance of illustrations from, or intended for, a manufacturer's catalogue; though they are not cuttings from a catalogue, they are real photographs on thin photographic paper (as used for woodburytypes and albumen prints) with clean blank backs (where visible).
