Description

Glass jar containing specimen of fibrous DNA prepared by Professor J. Gulland (d. 1947), in glass phial. and a ziploc bag containing yellow crystals. The phial containing the DNA sample is labelled: 'Deoxyribose nucleic acid from Calf's thymus ref no JS/10 ' (?).

Gulland was Professor of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham, where he worked with D. O. Jordan carrying out physico-chemical studies to establish the linear structure of this molecule. The results were published in the J. Chem. Soc. c.1946/47.
