Description
Commonly called the 'snuff-box microscope'. The flat folding tripod has a threaded socket for the pillar, which is in two parts. Objective number 1 is set in a silver lieberkuhn. There is another lieberkuhn for use with other objective lenses. Objectives 2 to 7 are mounted in two strips of brass that dovetail under the eye-cup. The wooden box is covered in black leather and lined green velvet (the lid is marked 22 in pencil). A paper label inside the lid advertises "G Lindsay Watch & Clockmaker to his Royal Highness ye Prince of Wales at ye Dial near Catherine Street in ye Strand. Inventor & Maker of ye Generally portable microscope". Other accessories include a fish-plate, stage, forceps, tweezers, four sliders and an ivory container for brass split rings.
