Description

Simple microscope in wood, probably by Zick, Nuremberg. A turned wooden case holds a single lens in a turned setting. The case is in two parts that screw together. A hollow handle, that holds the other pieces of this instrument, screws onto one of these parts. A hole in the setting takes a peg on the end of a turned shaft. At the other end of the shaft is a joint that fits a peg on one half of the case, forming a base and pillar. A steel pin on a wooden mounting fits into a hole in a peg that in turn fits a hole in the shaft. This assembly holds the pin and any specimen up to the lens.
