Chest Microscope with Accessories

The copper alloy body tube of the microscope has an eyepiece with a pivoting dust cover. The lower, narrow section of the body has an external thread to take objectives. The body is supported by a ring on an arm attached to the top of the square cross sectioned pillar. The cruciform stage has a recessed stage hole, a pinhole and two slots for accessories. The stage is mounted on a sliding sleeve and can be raised or lowered for focusing by a vertical screw on the side of the pillar. A pivoting arm holds the mount for the concave mirror. The pillar is mounted on a cradle joint on the inside the case and folds flat when not in use. The case is mahogany, has a removable slat to allow the microscope to pivot out, and is lined with green velvet. The accessories present are: four objectives each with a removable cap; a fishplate; a Lieberkühn in a can; a Lieberkühn carrier; an ivory talc box containing glass circles and metal rings for sliders; four ivory sliders; a cone condenser; a spring stage; a live box; and a Hummingbird's feather folded in two squares of paper.
