Description
The copper alloy body is typical of the Gould type. It has a double-lens eyepiece set in blackened copper alloy and a field lens. The lower, narrow end of body has an external screw thread which fits a threaded copper alloy collar. The objective screws into the underside of the collar which is mounted on the end of a dovetailed copper alloy arm. Rack work is cut into the top of the arm. It fits into a pinion mechanism that pivots on its mounting and is operated by a double mill-edged knob. This arrangement allows the position of the body over the stage to be adjusted. This assembly is supported on a threaded cylindrical bar that expends from the top of the pillar. It can be moved up or down by a collar with an internal tread, for fine focusing. The stage is mounted on a sliding sleeve on the cylindrical pillar. It can be moved for coarse focusing and a tightening collar can hold it in place. The square stage fixed to a plate on its sleeve on two pillars. It has two pinholes for accessories, a circular, recessed hole and two copper alloy spring clips. Below the stage sleeve is another, supporting the Plano-concave mirror. The pillar stands on a ball and socket joint, with a winged tightening screw, on a heavy copper alloy plate. There are eight objectives, two have caps and two cannot be used in conjunction with the body, one of these is in a copper alloy canister. Other accessories include a super stage lens on an articulated arm, stage forceps, a glass disk in a copper alloy collar and a second dovetailed arm with rack work and a plain ring. The box is mahogany, lined with blue velvet.
