Description

The binocular body tubes are supported on a blackened brass arm that is attached, by a collar, to the pillar. The coarse focusing is by a pair of double mill-edged knobs, which rack the instrument up on a square cross-sectioned limb within the pillar. Fine focusing is achieved by a screw, which is graduated 1 to 10 in ones, on the top of the pillar. The circular stage carries a rectangular blackened brass mount for slides. This can move over the central stage hole and the slide is held in place with a steel spring mounted in one corner. The instrument is attached to the cast triangular base by a triangular plate, bearing the maker's name and hinged at each end. This allows the inclination of the instrument to be adjusted by locating a peg at the lower end of the pillar in one of a number of pinholes in the base.
