Description

Demo Kit for Microscope with Accessories, by Powell & Lealand, London, 1845. This copper alloy instrument (39606.1) has a binocular body mounted on an arm inscribed with the maker's name. There are no eyepieces and an objective screws into the underside of the arm. Two double mill edged knobs on the rear of the cylindrical limb extend a triangular bar supporting the optical components. The limb is carried on trunnions on a tripod. A parabolic reflector on a steel pin is mounted on a collar at the top of the limb. The stage is mechanical and the stage plate has a sliding, sprung bracket to hold specimens. An achromatic condenser is mounted on a plate that can be racked up and down. Two vertical knobs adjust the horizontal position of the condenser relative to the stage. A sleeve on the lower end of the limb holds the plano- concave mirror on an articulated arm. The accessories with this microscope are an objective (39606.2) a copper alloy canister for the objective (39606.3), a rotating disc of apertures (39606.4) and a threaded copper alloy collar (36606.5).
