Description

Painting (Oil on Canvas, Framed), portrait of George A. Rowell - meteorologist and underkeeper of the Ashmolean Museum. The bottom of the front of the frame is written in capital letters ' GEORGE A ROWELL METEOROLOGIST UNDERKEEPER OLD ASHMOLEAN MUSEUM 1803 - 1890'. Appears unsigned. On the rear the canvas is stamped with the makers mark on the reverse. Brown paper tape has been used to close the gap between the canvas and the frame - and there are four wooden canvas keys. Copper ally hooks and hanging wire.
