Description

The original drawing shows the upper interior staircase of the Old Ashmolean Building, with paintings hanging on the walls of the stairwell, as traditionally displayed when it was the Ashmolean Museum, that is, before 1894 and probably before about 1860. The original inscription however seems to be incorrect, as the interior stairs were not taken down and still exist (the external stone staircase was removed about 1863, and the interior staircase extended downwards to the basement).

The backing card is part of a printed notice reading 'Reprints & Postcards | Specially Printed for the Visit of the British Association | On Sale | at the Old Ashmolean Building | Broad Street' [1926].
