Description

A pocket-sized Gould-Type compound microscope, manufactured by Cary. The instrument has a notched rectangular pillar with a threaded base which attaches to a corresponding hole on the instrument's case. An arm with threaded opening is mounted on the top of the pillar. A conical shaped body tube threads into the opening on the arm. A stage plate with recessed central hole inserts into a mount attached to the pillar. Coarse focusing is achieved by moving the stage up and down the pillar via a rack and pinion mechanism.

The instrument is stored in a mahogany case lined with blue velvet. A threaded hole in the case supports the instrument's pillar, allowing the case to act as the instrument's base. The following accessories are also stored in the case: a concave mirror in horse shoe mount, three objectives of different powers, a live box, a specimen pin, and a bone slider.
