Description

Card box containing two gelatine glass negatives, of quarter plate size (approximately 4¼ by 3¼ inches), of Russell's pastel drawing of the moon (1795), taken in the Radcliffe Observatory library at about the same time as the full-plate negative also in the Museum's collection (12766 and see 12762). Images are in vertical format. The images are identical but one negative is black and white with an emulsion completely covered in streaky lines (brush-strokes), the other is yellowish with a perfectly smooth emulsion. The plates are wrapped in a folded paper wrapper.
