Description
Collodion positive on glass (ambrotype), full-plate size (approximately 6½ by 8½ inches), broken. A young man, Henry Hill Hodgson, sitting on his four-wheel velocipede, his hands and feet on the controls, looking proudly towards the camera. Horizontal format. Coloured.
Henry Hill Hodgson (1837-1919) was a bookseller and auctioneer, following his father in 1867 in running a sale room at 115 Chancery Lane, London. He retired in 1900, but the family firm and sale room existed until 1981.
