Description

Copper alloy Microscope. The pillar of this copper alloy instrument consisting of a pillar which stands on a triangular base with three circular feet. The limb is carried on trunnions and when upright fits into a slot in the pillar. A rack and pinion set in the joint and operated by two knobs, raises a bar with a triangular section. The body tube screws onto an arm at the top of the bar and the eyepiece pushes into the top of the body. A vertical screw near the lower end of the body operates the fine focus. The rectangular stage has a pinhole for accessories. A knob beneath the stage racks a plate in a dovetail slot back and forth. A shelf, to hold specimens, slides in a dovetail slot in the plate. The plano-concave mirror is mounted on a pivoting arm on the limb, below the stage. There are accessories and a case with the microscope. The pillar and eyepiece must be detached to fit the microscope into its wooden case. A drawer in the top of the case holds stage forceps and a bull's-eye lens, both of which are on steel pins mounted on ball joints. There is also a biconvex lens with no setting. There is a key for the case.
