The instrument is mounted on a wooden square base and has a rotating mirror and a square-shaped pillar that has a clamp and tightening screw and supports the stage and an arm that holds the body tube, eyepiece and focusing lens. An accessories drawer slides out of the base. It has red felt lining, a large main compartment on the right, a long thin compartment to the left and a compartment divided into six smaller square sections at the far left. The drawer contains five copper alloy objectives marked 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6, stage forceps, an ivory talc box, a copper alloy dust cap, a substage cone, a spring stage outer tube, a circular glass plate, copper alloy tweezers and a fishplate with a green ribbon wrapped round it. The pyramidal case has a hinged door with a locking mechanism and a small circular carrying handle. A second accessories drawer slides out of the case's lower compartment and contains five ivory sliders that have various specimens and a wet cell.
