Description

Terrestrial globe in library stand, with magnetic compass in base and brass-coated latitude scale mounted through the poles. Magnetic compass has Iron needle (rusted). Mounted on tripod-type oak(?) base with caster wheels.

The globe bearing a dedication to Sir Joseph Banks, a statement that it contains "all the latest discoveries and communications ... to the year 1799", and mentioning Captain Cook, was engraved "from an accurate drawing by Mr. Arroursmith, Geographer." It has "additions to 1807". The colophon ends "Manufactured and Sold, Wholesale and Retail, by W. and T. M. Bardin, 16, Salisbury Square, Fleet Street, London".
