Description
Large album documenting R. T. Gunther's journey to study fresh-water medusae in Lake Urmi in 1898, which took him through Russia, and back via Constantinople. Consists of photographs with a few other items, including several sketches and a watercolour drawing. The photographs mostly show architecture and landscape, including photographs commercially produced in Russia (one a triple-width folding panorama), as well as snapshots taken by Gunther, some of them from the open carts on which he travelled. Processes include albumen prints and gelatine prints of various types.
