Screw barrel microscope with accessories in case, by I P Cutts, English, c. 1850. Microscope: .1) a cylindrical, copper alloy housing stand on a copper alloy ring. Sections of the housing are cut away to allow access to the stage and light to the concave mirror below it. The circular stage consists of two rings with a spring between them. The stage hole is recessed and threaded and there are two pinholes.  A rack and pinion moves the body up and down for focusing. The body has an inner draw tube with an eyepiece of two lenses and a blackened eyecup, a field lens and a nose with an internal thread for objectives. The accessories with this microscope are six objectives (.2), a copper alloy talc box (.3), a live box (.4), a black and white disk (.5), a copper alloy dish with a glass window (.6), copper alloy forceps (.7), a bull's-eye lens on a steel pin (.8), a copper alloy arm (.9) and a Lieberkühn (.10). The fitted case (.11) is mahogany lined with red velvet. The underside of the lid has a doyley-shaped white paper label with manufacturer information. Two sheets of paper with a diagram on one and instructions on the other are also present (.12).
