Description

Chemical balance constructed of a copper alloy pillar with two rounded grooves for holding a weighing beam. Two metal struts extend at a 45 degree angle upwards from the pillar in order to support the weighing beam. Scale is held in a wooden case with a sliding, removable glass panel. A drawer with ivory handle is located in the base of the case, the drawer has fitted compartments with blue fabric linings.

The platinum weighing arm which would have originally fitted this balance is purported to have been melted down during the First World War.
