Description

Five loose copies of the plate accompanying E. J. Stone's 1896 article about John Russell's pastel drawing of the moon, consisting of a woodburytype, nearly square, unusual blue-grey colour, mounted on stiff paper or card, printed with captions etc. The photograph was taken by E. E. McClellan, an assistant at the Radcliffe Observatory, in 1895. The article is E. J. Stone, "Note on a Crayon Drawing of the Moon by John Russell, R.A., at the Radcliffe Observatory, Oxford", Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, vol.LVI no.3, January 1896, pp.88-95 and plate 9. The printers were Eyre & Spottiswoode.
