Description

Carbon print (from a collodion glass negative) mounted on large, stiff card; or possibly (if its date is later) a platinum print. Portrait of Michael Faraday, standing three-quarter length, facing more or less front but looking slightly to right, holding up a rod in his right hand (as if showing it during a discourse), his left hand resting on a table. Arched top. Black and white. It is a later issue of one of the photographs taken in 1857 by Maull & Polyblank, this copy printed after Faraday's death in 1867 by which time the firm was called Maull & Fox. Maull also issued a carte de visite of the vignetted head from one of these photographs (see example in album 11837).
