Description

Student's microscope, by Nachet, Paris, 1863-1872. This copper alloy microscope (.1) is supported by a cylindrical pillar on a weighted circular base. A concave mirror is set on an articulated arm on a hinge at the centre of the base. The body slides in a sleeve on an arm attached to the top of the pillar. The eyepiece pushes into a draw tube in the top of the body and the conical nose, with an external thread for objectives screws onto the lower end. The rectangular stage has two spring clips to hold specimens and a rotating disk with three apertures is fixed below the stage hole. The box (.2) is mahogany with red silk padding in the lid. It also holds two eyepieces (.3), a white card box (.4) containing a tag with red thread attached and "R. Gunther Colln. NATCHET" handwritten, a micrometer set in a copper alloy plate (.5) and a leather covered case (.6) with three objectives (.7).
