Description
The compound tube has three objectives that can be used in combination. The assembly screws into a ring at one end of a copper alloy arm which swivels about its mid-point. At the other end is a sprung ring that holds simple objective lenses. The arm is fixed to a bar that extends from the limb and has a triangular cross-section with racking on one face. It is moved for focusing, by means of a triple milled edge knob on the stage mounting. The mechanical stage has a single pinhole for accessories and a rotating sprung plate to hold slides. The cylindrical limb extends below the stage and carries the plano-concave mirror on a sliding sleeve. A compass joint on the rear of the limb attaches it to the cylindrical pillar that screws into the heavy flat tripod foot.
The accessories comprise two simple objectives, two small copper alloy canisters, stage forceps, a super stage lens, copper alloy forceps, two glass disks, a black and white ivory disc, a screw driver plate with two pins that fit the compass joint, A Lieberkühn on a sleeve in a copper alloy canister, second eyepiece, copper alloy cylinder with a velvet covered sprung stage to hold phials, a glass phial, a specimen holder on a copper alloy plate, two small glass slides, a large copper alloy, glass and mahogany fishplate with a slide on stage and a magnifier. The fitted box is mahogany and the instrument supports edged with black velvet.
