Description

The box is mahogany, with green velvet lining in the base. The lid is hinged at one end with instructions for use printed on a label on the inside. The lens is set in an ivory annulus, the central area of which is painted black, standing on three copper alloy legs. Below the lens is a circular, blackened ivory stage is supported on the legs on pivoting joints. Two of the legs are fixed to the hinge and the third is fastened to the base by a wire loop. When the box is closed the assembly lies flat. As the lid is opened the instrument is raised to a vertical position. There are steel forceps held on the inside of the lid by a wire loop.
